How To Edit And Correct Text in Dragon DMO

How To Edit/Correct Text In OpNote Using Dragon (DMO)

Many OpNote users use Dragon DMO from Nuance to complete text fields. Dragon Medical One (DMO) is the leading voice-to-text software out there used in the medical field and is an extension of Dragon/Nuance services.

We have found that some users encounter problems when it comes to revising their text in OpNote. This usually breaks down into one of two issues:

1.     They are using an older version of Dragon which causes this and need to update as soon as possible.

2.     They are unaware of the commands to use when filling out these fields.

For the former, please contact your IT department to get them to investigate this issue and determine a timeline for any updates needed.

For the issue with commands, please see below. The following is from a January 2020 document put out by Nuance with instructions on language to use for making changes within already dictated text.

It also includes exercises to try to see verify the commands and prompts are working correctly.

PLEASE NOTE: mTuitive OpNote supports “use only” for voice recognition software through currently supported browsers. Any issues relating to Dragon, including revising text or requiring an update, must be provided by Nuance. This document is only meant as a simple primer and courtesy for our users. mTuitive cannot offer support for Nuance products beyond directly working with OpNote.

Edit Text

DMO adapts to the way individuals use vocabulary and their unique dictation style. DMO is continuously learning; the more DMO is used, the better its recognition. It is essential to edit misrecognitions and correct words or phrases that DMO did not get quite right. Voice commands can be used to select different words, numbers, sentences or phrases.

There are three ways to edit dictated text:

Manually edit dictated text to correct any misrecognized words

Use voice commands to select words, numbers, sentences, or phrases

       Use the correction menu

Selecting Text:

Place the cursor within the text to use voice commands. Voice commands can be used to select spoken or typed text. Users can select:

       Single words

       Phrases

       Whole sentences

       Paragraphs

       Punctuation marks

Pause briefly before saying commands. The pause lets DMO know the phrase is a command. Do not pause while speaking a command. For example, when speaking the command “Select Patient,” do not pause between the words “Select” and “Patient.”

Exercise:

Create a dictation using DMO with the following text (or copy and paste in order to get to the next steps of the exercise):

Chief Complaint: Patient presents today with a swelling of the ankles.

HPI: Symptoms have been present for about a week ever since an episode of vomiting and poor p.o. intake.

Working diagnoses:

1. Diabetes mellitus

2. Chronic kidney disease

3. Swollen ankles

Next, that dictation will be used to demonstrate how to make some changes using the “Correct <text>” or “Select <text>” command. Either word can be used in the following scenarios.

Correction #1: 2 weeks should be one week

  1.  Say "Correct (or Select) 2 weeks"

  2. Observe: DMO presents variations relevant to the selected text. If you wanted to change the format of how the text appears, you could make a selection from the correction menu (such as “Choose two or Choose six”) to automatically make the change.
  3. Say "one week"

Correction #2: Cold sweats should not have been included in chief complaints.

1.          Say "Select comma and cold sweats

2.          Say "Delete that"

3.          Observe that although Delete That is not listed in the choicepresented, saying the command deletes the selected text.

Correction #3: A word was omitted from the HPI section.

1.          Say "Insert before vomiting"

2.          Say "prolonged"

3.          Observe that DMO has inserted “prolonged” in the proper location.
