How to Create a Surgeon Account in OpNote for Cerner Integrated Customers

Background Information:  In Cerner, if a user launches OpNote but does not have a user account in OpNote, a user account is automatically created in OpNote with the role of 'Resident or Supporting Clinician' (can create op notes, cannot sign out).  This can be an issue for new surgeon's when creating their first report because they will not be able to sign out the report.

How can the surgeon's new user account be created in OpNote with the role of 'Signing Provider' (can create notes, can sign out) prior to launching OpNote for the first time?

There are two options:

Option 1 -- Customer Admin Creates the Surgeon User Account in OpNote

When a new surgeon comes on board, any Admin at the site that has an account in OpNote with the role of 'Access Control' can manually create the surgeon's user account in OpNote by taking the following steps under Users, 'Create New User' in OpNote:

First Name:  Enter the user's first name

Last Name:  Enter the user's last name

Suffix:  In most cases, select MD

Create a login.

User Name:  Enter the user's user name.  This field is required.  We usually create the user name as First.Last as illustrated in the screenshot above.  While this field is required, Cerner integrated customers will not need to remember this user name.
NOTE:  If your site has multiple customer records in OpNote due to multiple locations, we suggest the user name be First.Last.Location.  If the same user is added to multiple locations, adding the location at the end of the user name will make it unique.

Password:  Enter a password for this user account.  This field is required but Cerner integrated customers will not need to remember this password because mTuitive OpNote is launched from within Cerner.

Confirm Password:  Enter the same value entered in the Password field above.

License Number:  Enter the user's National Practitioner Identifier (NPI) as it appears in Cerner.

SourceMedical ID:  Enter the user's Cerner Person ID as it appears in Cerner.

Choose a clinical role, if this user is a clinician.

Select Signing Provider (can create notes; can sign out)
Under Specialty select General Surgery

Choose any administrative roles that apply.

Do not select anything

Choose a practice for restricted access.

Do not select anything

Send a welcome email to the new user with login instructions

Uncheck this field.  Login instructions are not needed for Cerner integrated customers.

Click the Create User button to save the record.

When the surgeon launches OpNote from within Cerner, the surgeon's NPI and Cerner ID are passed through to OpNote.  When found in a user record, OpNote will recognize the user as a surgeon and the user will be permitted to move forward with creating AND signing out a note.

Option 2 -- Request mTuitive Create the Surgeon User Account in OpNote

Customer send email to opnotesupport@mtuitive.com with the request to create a new surgeon user account.  Include the following information:

Full Name
Email Address
NPI
Cerner Person ID
